Reviving the “DEAD” in 2021

Android: Netrunner is a LCG (Living Card Game) made by fantasy flight in 2012 until it suddenly died in 2018 due to licencing issues. While this game actually goes back even farther with a TCG made by a different company, the best of the two has to be the FFG version. The game turned a lot of heads in it’s prime with it’s asymmetrical game play style and the cool cyberpunk art.

So why is a dead LCG game still relevant in 2020 ? Well.. the game rocks to be frank.

Some groups like NISEI are trying to keep things alive and make things fresh by creating their own content of cards and hosting tournaments. Here in St. John’s the game had a decent sized group of players that adored the game from the start. While the number sometimes bounced up and down over the course of 6 years the fascination for the game didn’t. Some might say the game died in it’s prime while others pit the sudden downfall to be the horrible changes to the rules and the re-release of a “revised” core set. This alone made a lot of people upset, especially those that were heavily invested into the game. Now with the end of FFG production, it is possibl to aim for a price point and buy the entire collection. This can be very appealing to some people who like to have it all.

The local scene has since complete died in 2017, with the Facebook group ‘The Avalon Grid’ not having any posts in over 2 years. However, that has now changed with the idea of a revival, a rebirth of sorts. There will be more news in the near future about it soon. If you still have your Netrunner cards it might be a good idea to hang onto this a while longer yet. The Grid is coming back online and you won’t wanna miss your chance to play. Right now due to the COVID restrictions, no local events are being hosted but perhaps there might be some games popping up in the Jentki.net servers in the near future. so jump online, try and break through the corporate ICE or tag those pesky runners, scorch the earth.
